

Ingredients (serves 6)
- 175g Wholemeal Flour
- 50g Plain Flour
- 75g Oatmeal
- 1 Teasp Bicarbonate of Soda
- ½ Teasp Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 275ml Cultured Buttermilk or Semi Skimmed Milk
Method
Pre-heat oven to 190C / 375F / Gas Mark 5
- Place all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- Beat the egg and milk together, add to the dry ingredients. Mix with a knife, then by hand until the dough is smooth.
- Form into a round shape and place on a greased baking tray, cut a cross on the centre of the loaf.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes.
- Cool on a wire rack.
This loaf is best eaten fresh, and also makes excellent toast
