Fussy Eating

It’s natural to worry whether your child is getting enough food if they refuse to eat sometimes. Try not to worry about what your child eats in a day or if they do not eat everything at mealtimes, It’s often more helpful to think about what they eat over a week.

Generally, if your child is active and gaining weight, and they seem well, then they’re getting enough energy from what they eat.

If you are worried about the range of foods they take it can be helpful to record their intake over a few days or a week in a food diary and make sure there are foods from each food group (see healthy eating section for information on the Eatwell guide). If you find there are food groups missing it may help to request a referral to the Dietitian from your child’s GP, Health Visitor or School Nurse.
