There are 3 main types of food labels on most packaged food items:
Front of Pack Nutrition Label
This label tells you about the amount of fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt in the product.
This label tends to be colour coded:
- Red means high
- Amber means medium
- Green means low
The more green on the label, the healthier the choice.
Ingredients List
Ingredients are always listed in weight order – the main ingredient is the first on the list.
Nutrition Label
This is found on the side or back of the pack and tells you about all the nutrients in the product (so gives more information than the front of pack label).
