The Hunger Scale

The hunger scale can be a useful tool to use to help you recognise and describe your level of hunger. This tool can also help you to think about when is the best time to plan and prepare food, start eating and stop eating.  It allows us an opportunity to stop and think about our level of hunger and how we are going to respond to it

It is important to try and recognise the “had enough point”. This can take a bit of practice as many people believe that if they do not feel full they must be hungry.  Our perception of fullness has changed over time and can be linked to portion size increase.

It takes around 15 to 20 minutes for our brain to register that we have a full stomach, therefore it is good practice to try and stop eating before you feel comfortably full due to the time delay, as it is likely in another 10 minutes you will feel even fuller.
